For the past days I've been wandering 'round the vast cyberspace looking for stuff to indulge my senses in. It makes me really really really happy to see cool stuff floating about

Or maybe that was just me trying to justify all the procrastinating I've been engaging in lately? I don't know. I'm enjoying myself. Shut up, school works. I'll cry about ya later

And so here is a preview of my internet history log. (I just want to record awesome things down for future stress relief hihi)

(Hit the jump)

(1) Lean Alejandro's letter to Prof. Rita Estrada

I know I've shared this multiple times already, but it's really really worth sharing again and again because it's such an awesome read. It's very agitating and comforting and heartbreaking all at the same time. I don't know. We're not even supposed to read it, it was addressed only to one person. Imagine what his letters to other people could have contained

I've only known Lean as a big-deal student activist. I've never really thought of him as a guy with a great sense of humor until I read this bit. Dammit he's a fire-bearing badass. May all his enemies burn
Our situation here is like being held hostage by a bunch of juvenile delinquents with guns. For that matter, our country is being held at bay by a bunch of pre-puberty terrorists. It is grotesque to say the least.

Reading this thing made me even more eager to read the LOTR series and know its universe more. Reading the last paragraph, however, threw me off guard. I've read it before, but reading it again gave me even, er, stronger chills
I am getting another chance to revisit Beleriand. The War of the Rings is on. The Company has just lost Gandalf in Moria. And there is still such a long, long way to go. It is an adventure on an epic scale. And I am glad that it is an adventure that we both share, together with all the Free People of Middle Earth.
But notwithstanding the glory of the Third Age, I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that the greatest adventure on earth today is our struggle for freedom. The pain and the sacrifice are staggering. The battles are historical. And the victory shall be truly glorious indeed.

Up 'til now I hate myself for missing the Lean  musical thingy that was held just a few weeks ago. I wish I wasn't broke all the time haha

(2) Upcoming book fairs (sort of)
via Rocket Kapre

Filipino Reader Con 2013 will be held on November 9th in Ateneo De Manila U Rizal Library. I'm looking forward to the small/self/indie publishers who will be selling their wares on the event. (I'm not trying to be hipsta here. I just don't enjoy belonging to a huge-ass fanbase of something. Also, folks that are not yet that big in their industry deserve a brighter spotlight, yeah?)

Visprint will be holding a Warehouse Sale on all Saturdays of October and I'm super excited to get my hands on my first Filipino comic books! (First... or so I believe.) I've seen previews of both Trese and Kulas somewhere in the cyberspace and I think that I'll learn a lot about comic-making (what... i.e. paneling) once I actually start intaking those materials (yeah sorry I really wanna do lots of stuff)

To be honest, I'm not a really a book junkie. I have, however, witnessed the glory that comes with finishing a book, and I am so very more than willing to experience it again /kilig

(3) Upcoming art events
via Art Pipe

  • Bonifacio@150 Gallery Exhibit at the UP Fine Arts. Runs October 8-24, College of Fine Arts, UP Diliman, in celebration of Boni's 150th birthday. Nope I'm so not missing this
  • Dii Ex Machinis (Gods from Machines), a show by Joseph Valente. Runs October 5-24, 371 Art Space, The Collective, Makati
  • Headspace, a solo exhibit by Rob Cham. Prolly one of my favorite artists (if not solely my favorite) of all time because goddammit his works are reflections of every folk's heart guts. Runs October 5 to maybe until the 24th idk, Vinyl on Vinyl, The Collective, Makati

(4) Monkey's orchestra

(5) SCAD shorts
on YouTube

These are a bunch of videos I found to be a bit weird. They're fun to watch, really. You just have to open your mind I think

Other awesome stuff from that channel:

I won't even apologize for putting up all the items from their channel becauSE THEIR STUFF ARE LOADED WITH GENIUS

(6) NBSB (No Boyfriend Since Birth, Reese Lansangan cover) by one of the awesomest folks I know: myself lol
via SoundCloud

Reese's song prolly is one of the biggest earbugs I've had this year, and so to get this syndrome off me I decided to record it. So I won't have to sing it again. And again

Marvel at my awesomeness, human
(de joke lang)

(7) Jeremy Enecio's stuff
via his portfolio

(8) Interior design

A few weeks back I've started some sort of an inspirational tumblog. Aside from inspirational shit, put up in it are a bunch of stuff I might be employing in the future i.e. living spaces. Looking at it actually frustrates me. It makes me wish that I was more artistic and more sensitive when it comes to space and design. You can't imagine how badly I wanted to shift to an interior design course right now ugh

(12) ButtPoems

There’s this awesome dude on Tumblr. He makes songs and sings them. He also draws stuff, too. He’s another one of those folks who can seem to arrange people’s thoughts into illustrations and songs. Wow

I like him very much already. I don’t even know what he looks like

Last week I've gone to the cinema twice. It might have left my purse emaciated, but I swear to the universe it was all worth it. On the weekends I accidentally started procrastinating again and indulged myself in film trailers, short films, and documentaries

Dammit I'm so happy right now

Cinderella (1950)
1/5. The plot’s quite short, really. What made the film last an hour and quarter a though were the crappy Tom-and-Jerry-esque scenes (there were LOTS) and the inevitable musical numbers that were not even relevant to the story. Besides inconspicuously being a sarcastic bitch, Cinderella always has a mouthful to say. I would want her to just shut up—her animal friends, with whom she talks to, mutter only insensible and stupid cheese so there’s really no point in talking to them, okay? Also, Cindy apparently has issues keeping her shoes on—throughout the course of the movie she has had them slip off her foot thrice ugh what klutz

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
4/5. This is a story of two literally crazy people falling in love. I never was a Jennifer Lawrence fan since i never really got to see The Hunger Games until two weeks ago (nor did i read the novels), but this film made me really love herrrr~ Also, i think i got turned on by Pat’s character? I’m attracted to disabled people kasi eh huhu there i said it

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
4/5. Usama bin Laden is dead, so i guess everyone knows how this film will end, but i assure you that spending almost three hours watching this shit won’t disappoint. I found it quite disturbing and very educational, plus there weren’t any dead scenes! (or dead-air scenes? eh, whatever) I’ve even learned some, er, information-extracting tactics here muhaha and i’m so dying to use them (hehe kidding)! I do hate the US, but i think that Al Qaeda’s hatred towards dat capitalist nation is going a bit too far. The Moslems were too attached to their faith and i still find it really scary. The only thing i hate about this flick was that they sort of blurred the line between fiction and real life. Most of the information presented was accurate, sure, but for the curious minds, a mere glance at Wikipedia articles won’t be enough. Mapapa-research talaga kayo hehe. Allahu akbar! JOKE

Hercules (1997)
2/5. Tbh this was the first time i’ve seen this film and if it had a better ending, i’d regret not seeing it as a child. It’s cartoon, but if it were not, i would have been someone sort of fucked up right now! Hades’ crib has really creeped me out, and Megara was so freakin provocative! Is this really a film designed for children? Lol. Also, i think that Hades just wanted everyone to join him in the underworld and i see nothing wrong with keeping oneself from getting lonely. I love u Hades

Because one vampire movie marathon won't do

Let Me In (2010)
5/5 | A 12-year-old loner befriends a 12-year-old nonhuman recluse in this morbid little love tale. I loved the original Swedish version and i have already braced myself for ruthless vandalism, but it turns out that my nega expectations were a letdown because i find this to be the better version. It has given me answers to questions i have had after seeing the original one askdjfs but but but the original one’s more eerie so i say everybody should see both shit

The Horror of Dracula (1958)
1/5 | This is the third version i’ve seen, and so far i must say that this is the one i didn’t like the most. All of the characters looked alike and most of them were trying too hard not to block the audience’ view. I think the only shit people should see is the part where Van Helsing slapped the shit out of the Harkers’ housemaid (huhu dat shit made me laugh so hard because it looked so strange hahaha)

Jeepers Creepers (2001)
4/5 | They say you are what you eat, and it seems that Jeepers Creepers is taking that adage very literally. The clothes-sniffing, corpse-MOMOLing (read it right), fear-smelling winged creature of a renowned urban legend turns into what it consumes... or so that’s what the crazy psychic woman says. Speaking of crazy, the thing that drove me sorta really bonkers here was that abandoned church basement cave hideout bedazzled with stitched-up freaky-faced cadavers! I THOUGHT THAT THAT’D BE FUCKING TRAUMATIZING (if you don’t then go away)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
2/5 | Now i don’t know what Seth Grahame-Smith was smoking at the time he wrote this, but whatever it was, HE MUST HAND IT OUT TO ALL THE OTHER WRITERS OUT THERE! Sure, the plot was not that terrific, but i loved how he mashed up history with fictionnnn. I didn’t like the story that much because the it was very predictable. However, i appreciated how they imparted scientific knowledge on why bloodsuckers are killed by silver oo masaya na ko non sorry. Also, THE SETTING! The setting was so very fucking amazing and i’m pretty sure that i’d love to live in this era! I won’t mind the lack of hygiene, i swear!

Nosferatu (1922)
4/5 | This unauthorized silent film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel comes in black and white AND YET IT COMPLETELY SPOKE TO ME LADFJD. I think it’s because of the cute actions, the pretty faces, and the refreshing background scores? idk why, but it somehow reminded me of those fantasy RPGs i used to play back when our PS2 hasn’t gone nuts akjflasdk who wouldn’t love a rush of nostalgia? Also, i think i may have a little crush on Nosferatu. I guess i’m attracted to guys with dark circles round their eyes and freakishly long fingers ? ? ? Plus he looks like some dude you’d push down the school stairs (not that i push people down the stairs though) and i sort of really like geeky bully magnets (okay i said it huhu) (also, not that Nosferatu actually is a bully magnet... he just looks like one)

I’d be flying over to Transylvania mid-May and i think watching Bram Stoker’s Dracula still wasn’t enough, so

UNDERWORLD (FILM SERIES)
Corvinus’ sons are little asses who seem to be oblivious of the dangers of the world. One got bitten by a bat and turned into a vampire. Another got bitten by a wolf and turned into a lycan. Well we all know that vampires shapeshift into werewolves, but this film suggests that the two are adversaries. The plot was able to illustrate how that came to be so i guess it’s fine. The storyline was a little effortless and i still don’t think that the presence of hot peepz and heavy morbidity will make up for it. The series i think still hasn’t met its end yet kasi the latest instalment was open ended so i guess i'll just have to watch out for Underworld 5

BLADE (1998)
A vampire hunter (who was a semi-vampire himself) tries to stop whatever the most oppressive of bloodsuckers was up to via really slick Enter the Dragon-esque moves. There are lots of OA scenes, but i think that that further adds pogi points. Plus points for a ‘stached sidekick, a special zombie appearance, and a bloodsucking hitman that keeps coming back to life no matter how many times you slice and dice and fry him. Basta children, remember, crosses and holy water don’t do dick! But silver will. Because silver repels werewolves, and fuck yeah vamps equals werewolves

THE LOST BOYS (1987)
The lost boys are a bunch of teenage bike-riding hipster warlocks who wear Jack Sparrow earrings and dress flashily and do rad adrenaline-inducing shit together and bleed glitter. Yep, glitter. This film will sort of make you want to become a vampire yourself. Getting rid of vampires will require traditional stake and sunlight, but, to quote vampire beta, garlic don’t work, boys. Holy water does, though. Also, the film was consistent with Sweden’s Let the Right One In with its invite-lé-vampire-first-so-that-it-can-enter-your-house decree and i think that’s a rule every vampire film should absorb

DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT (1995)
The comedy version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. At first i thought it’d suck, but i had to admit that some scenes were funny or shallow lang talaga 'ko huhu. In this film, Renfield was Gollum and Dracula was his precious, Van Helsing’s accent was rrr’s and zzz’s. Vampires have daymares and i think that’s logical natawa ako :( This shit was brimming with estrogen and boobs and boners but i swear it still cannot possibly make anyone go unf

FRIGHT NIGHT (2011)
Now this one’s been residing in my movie folder for a century now and tonight just happened to be vampire movie marathon night. So Jerry here is the new resident vampire and people from the neighbourhood disappear one by one. This film has introduced me to new vampire shit—vampires cannot be caught on camera and they start looking like that shark from Jaws whenever they feed. I was sort of super expecting that it’d be David Tennant who’d be savin the freakin day, and though i didn’t get the ending i was so fucking looking forward to, i was gripped to see how Jerry the Vampire’s 400-year-old ass turned out to have no match for David fucking Tennant’s 900-year-old time lord bottom. Fuck yeah time lords!

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996)
Brothers Seth (Clooney) and Richie (Tarantino) has taken a family of three as hostage and wound up in a nest of vampires halfway into the movie—it took that long that i almost thought it wasn’t a vampire movie at all! Tarantino here was a mentally impaired sex offender and i think that that bit made the movie a whole lot cooler. Now i’ve developed this newfound crush on Clooney and Tarantino okayladjf. I think they are the coolest terrorists ever. I also think that this, by far, is the coolest bloodsucker movie i’ve ever seen! The climax was brimming with undead boners and undead boobs and lots of Jackie Chan action and disembodied body parts. Did i mention they filled condoms up with holy water? MAN THOSE WERE THE COOLEST FREAKIN BOMBS I’D EVER. SET. MY EYES. UPON ON! However, although the plot was action-filled and super kickass, the ending was sort of disappointing. BUT MAN, THIS FLICK ROCKS! WATCH IT, RETARDS!

Post-halloween film marathon

I know it's almost christmas but

tiktik (2012)

I’ve seen this flick weeks ago already but hey let me exploit the overly creative blog post title okay? I’ve seen this film in the cinema with shai and we were laughing half the time. The other half was spent transferring from seat to seat and exchanging annoyed looks because half of one girly couple (as in a couple of two girls) had her mobile phone pen light turned on throughout the movie and she sucked and i hated her because of that so please don’t ever do that in the cinema because it annoys the fuck out of other people. As for the viewing part of the experience, i was actually expecting 100% horror slash suspense material with a little dash of drama maybe since nobody ever really told me about it hopping onto the loveboat of comedy so i really loathed myself sort of for disregarding the fact that ramon bautista was in it and that ramon bautista was all about giggles and shit related to giggles. When it comes to visuals, i was kinda annoyed by the graphics since it was too realistic and too three-dimensional for me that everything looked unreal and everything looked as if it was made of non-shiny plastic and matté. The storyline wasn’t at all that awesome, but hey, screw dingdong, EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE HIS DOSE OF HOT PREGNANT LOVI POE SHOOTING UNEARTHLY CREATURES WITH WHAT SEEMED TO BE A SUPER DUPER HEAVY ARMALITE, YA?

28 days later (2002)

Zombie guts. Zombie guts and Cillian Murphy’s hot skinny bod because I am into hot skinny bods now and the Ninth Doctor were all here and it’s an apocalypse movie with zombielike creatures in it so I think people should watch it, really. Lots of pew-pews and sugar-overdosing and Valium-popping too! Sounds fun, eh?

the evil dead (1983)

Yuck. I would’ve taken a screenshot of it but i forgot i’ve zapped the .avi file out of the recycle bin forever.

the exorcist (1983)

This was not the first time i saw this film, but i never really understood any of it the first time i saw it because i was still a dumb little boy back then. The storyline does not really stand out—it was a straight to the point, “ahhh my child was possessed turn her back into a normal kid again oh wow that was quick thanks but sorry you died in the process” sort of film with no plot twists so i kinda got bored watching it but i’m not saying people should stop watching it or recommending it to other people because i think (I THINK) people living in the 70’s have not yet considered films like these to be cliché and i think that that’s a good enough reason to sort of suck, but please let the audience do some thinking goddamnit. Also, there are some graphic stuff in it so i think sadists or masochists or whatever-you-call-them-pain-loving-folks ists will sort of like it because yes there is blood involved.

triangle (2009)

This film is one huge mindfuck but then an hour and eight minutes into it you’ll think that you’ve already gotten the hang of it but you actually don’t because things get even more complicated after that. Whatever i will say next may or may not be a spoiler—if it is don’t tell me i didn’t tell you because i evidently did—but at first i thought Aeolus has sort of fallen into a time riff and Jess and Greg and the others were just painted with bad luck but in the end you’ll figure that this movie is really one hell of a mind boomer and that the screenwriter was a genius nutz. Besides the epic storyline may i just note that i found it super amazing how the people behind this film whoever they are were able to turn this shit into some sort of a horror film (but then i know not what i horror film truly is sorry for that)—WITHOUT PUTTING OUT THE SUN! Fucking awesome, right? However, if people are not actually into horror films and epic storylines, well, the actors are quite yummy (Jess and Vic and Greg especially) so i really think people should see this shit. Awesome, hot, crazy shit.

resident evil: retribution (2012)

It was frustrating to see how hot the actors were—the guys’ arms were super sexy and i loved catching glimpses of them because unf and alice had such a small frame which i can only wish to have as i think i will never ever get the motivation to actually go on a diet or exercise regularly or do whatever those healthy sexy fit people on telly say they do. Also, i wasn’t impressed by how alice’s epic ninja skillz suddenly skyrocketed from 100 to 2000 because that’s super unacceptable in the real world. There were lots scenes where i thought they are too shit fucked to survive but they survived anyway—i mean wow shit kulang nalang they shoot lazers out of their mouths or something. But i guess that is totally what they’d be doing the in the 6th instalment and man i wish it’d come out already.

poltergeist (1982)

I was supposed to finish this film with monica but we moved on to films with Ellen Page in it so i guess we forgot about this particular one but it was hanging out in my movie folder and since this was a post-halloween marathongs, why not, eh? So the only creepy thing in this film was the clown-like doll but i guess the animated tree put out all the creepiness. Ah, the 80’s. I learned lots about the other spectrum from this clairvoyant and i really think that this film served its educational purpose well. Also, portals!

Screencaps: King Worm

What can I say? This is a really messed up episode of Adventure Time! By the end of the show, you could not even tell whether or not Finn was still dreaming.

Here are the screencaps. You be the judge.

Also, I suggest you do not think about it tonight.
