Café Lidia

Howdy! Welcome to a segment of Juan Tralala Tries to Critic! Lol. Dry run lang 'to kasi baka seryosohin ko ang pagb-blog 'pag ako'y nasa working class na. Hahaha ilusyonada

Moving on.

In our household, Sunday is always pizza day. We (Jill and Jared and Mama and I) either go out to satisfy our cravings or just have them sexy things (yes pizza is fuckin sexy okay) delivered to our house.

Usually we go to Papa John's or Shakey's or Yellow Cab or Greenwich or Pizza Hut or Don Henrico's, but last Sunday Mum brought us to someplace different. Last Sunday we went to Café Lidia in Marikina.

One of the few pinaghirapang graffiti I have ever seen.

Medyo pa-ninja yung lugar, tago.

During the trip, Jared kept insisting that we dine at McDo's instead. Since we did not anyway, he was so full of bad vibes by the time we got to the café.

Jared, a.k.a. "Boy Bad Trip"

Jill the Feeling Redhead

The café had a really lovely interior (wow gumaganon). One would know that it used to be a residential unit after about a minute of getting a load of its structure. Cutesy vintage decor can be seen everywhere, pero I think that's kind of the trend with cafés nowadays (i.e. Café Noriter, Toll House, CBTL).

So I enjoyed the interior, okay. Unfortunately, the sight of a padlock at the corner of their WiFi ID made me kinda sad. Cafés would usually offer free WiFi-- well, clearly this one does not. I've nothing against it offering no WiFi, though (pero affected na affected naman hahaha).

Also, I got too used to using knives whenever we go out for pizza. Café Lidia, however, only place spoons and forks and napkins on their tables-- no knives huhu. Maybe they're trying to offer only those silverware Filipinos are most fond of using? Pero if they are how come their decors look imported? Bah whatever. I never got to use the silverware anyway aside from when I was taking in some Mozzarella Sticks (oo meron sila-- just like the other pizza places we go to woohoo!) since kinakamay ko lang yung pizza (oha mas Pinoy ang dating). Ang laking issue sakin ng knife, sorry.

When it comes to price, I think they're fair with setting their's. Thin crust pizzas (dahil wala namang thick) cost a little over Php 250 each, depending on which. Their cakes were priced at a level that can compete with eateries with larger names-- a slice of sansrival will cost you a glittering Php 90 (oo glittering dahil ako 'di ko afford at oo yung price lang ng sansrival tinignan ko dahil I was kind of thinking of bringing Monica here).

On to our orders:
  • Pizza Papa
  • Pizza Lidia
  • Mozzarella sticks
  • Some mocha drink really rich in whipped cream whose name I forgot na (Jill's)
  • Some chocolate drink which has less whipped cream than the mocha drink (Jared's)

Pizza Papa was a-okay but then I would like to apologize because I can never ever appreciate thin crust pizzas. Their wonderful crispiness distracts me from indulging myself in their cheesy form. Ayoko ng sabay-sabay na pleasure. Gusto ko one at a time.

Pizza Papa
I did not really appreciate Pizza Lidia because
  • It has black olives
  • It has green olives (for further injury, I think)
  • It has tuna in it (I'm sick of tuna okay)
  • The tomato and the layer of cheese was the only thing I liked about it

Anyway, people have different tastes so I'm not dissuading anyone from trying it. So go on. Try it.

Pizza Lidia
Earlier I mentioned that it has a lovely interior. Well, that was one of the reasons Mum brought us there. While waiting for the bill, Mum was insisting that we take a trip to the powder room. Eh ayaw namin. Yun pala she just wanted us to see its grandiose, er, interior. However, Jill was too busy with her anime and I was too full of pride so I didn't go anyway. I don't want Mum to emerge victorious in trying to show us something fab that she saw first before we did. Oo masama akong anak lol

The interior was good. The service was good. I guess we just ordered the wrong items. Overall, I give it a 2 out of 5 (wow gumaganon).

August 10: The monkey turns ten

The Habagat frenzy and the nonstop downpour that followed days later did not stop my little brother from celebrating his 10th birthday. Unfortunately, the only guests he had were Tita Fe, Tita Annie, Annica, and BJ (one of his petty ka-barkada). Sending out invitations on such a short notice turned out to be a bad idea after all.

Since Mama went to work that day, she asked me to cook Carbonara. The last time I cooked such dish was the summer when we had no yaya around to tend to our shitty orders, making Jill and I liable for any household mishaps (i.e. late dinner, hungry dogs, huge pile of dirty laundry, sticky floors, et cetera). That was the summer of 2007, a little more than five years ago. So boohoo. I did not know what to do.

Ate Madel made things a bit easier for me though-- she rounded up the ingredients (evaporated milk, pasta noodles, cream of mushroom, bacon, garlic, onion) on the counter. The only thing I'm in doubt of is the order in which the ingredients must meet its hot end.

In the end, naghula-hula nalang moi.

Overcooked bacon: Double deadly

I seriously do not know what I am doing.

A little before 4pm, Mama arrived with a box of chocolate cake in hands. Apparently, she was not able to acquire the ice cream cake she ordered online since she was not able to print out its voucher.

Honestly, I find the celebration quite sad since there attended only a handful of guests. I myself was not able to give him a present since ang daming gastos sa school and the suspension of classes during the flood delayed my receipt of allowance from Mum. Walang pera forever, period.

And to the smelliest, most arrogant monkey I have ever met, happy 10th birthday! I love you besides the fact that you hate taking baths and that you would sometimes even lie about the fact that you had not yet taken a bath or brushed your teeth yet. I'm so glad I have you in my life-- you're kind of the most important touch to it. :D

I was tasked to get the books and shoes and clothes upstairs.
Epal yung alikabok, pinky swear.

I had to take care of such a dirty business.

August 7th, 0830 hours (wow gumaganon)

By 0930, we were able to bring most of our heavy thingamabobs upstairs. Pero we left the telly downstairs so that we'd still be in the know kung nanu nang nangyayari sa labas.

Mum on a coffee break.
Mrs. Spidey putting up a web. Bad timing, darling.

By 1300, the very unwelcome floodwater was able to penetrate through our first line of defense. We never  had the thought of abandoning ship though. Nevarrrr!

Oo, may superpowers kapatid ko. He's half a butterfly. Hush lang ha.

Go away Leptospirosis, we don't want your ass in here.

This here (below) is a photo of where my boyfriend resides (oo meron pero wala namang makakabasa nito so gora lang). Yung first storey, school. Yung second, bahay.

Since Teacher Joy (the owner) is such a philanthropist (I mean that in the most positive way, just so you know), she let those whose houses are only one-storey be guests muna 'til the waters receded. So even before the tubig-baha was knee-high, people were rushing in to her very, very humble abode. Apparently they knew when to evacuate na because of the Ondoy experience.

Still, they're throwing a party without inviting us. Boo hoo. Andun pa naman yung crush ko nung maliit ako (landi 'no, hehe).

One of my Facebook contacts thought (I think he was kidding, though) that
those were escape slides! Pwede din, 'no? Hihi.

Jared's room = Instant bodega

Ready to welcome the oh-so-demented floodwater. No open arms for you though.

Stuffed tiger clinging to the well. Rad idea, mister.

Bedroom panorama (ours)

Living room panorama, pre-alon.

Living room panorama, post-alon.

By morning (August 8th), the floodwater that forced its way into our house was the first one to greet me hello. How nice of it.

Indoor pool, anyone?

Meanwhile, upstairs:

I was surprised to find an Eragon book in Papa's shelves. I mean, really?

Feeling nasa Venice.

Almost waist-deep.

Parang-milkshake in our yard. Where are all the boys at?!
K.

Kitty (not a cat) and Sirius (a.k.a. Padfoot)

Izzy (pups' mum) and Churro (pups' dad, as we assumed)

Yellowbell St. Extension Panorama (with Jared's filthy face)

Cuddle weather-- even for Izzy and her offsprings.

First time 'ko kasing maglaro ng Monopoly na may naka-hotel eh. Pagpasensiyahan.

When the floodwater packed up and went away (never come back, you evil thing!), we started cleaning up. Mama and I took care of the terrace which by then was a haven for flies! As in shit, ang daming tae. I just did not take a picture of it because surely 'di mate-take ng sikmura niyo. Good thing we feed them pellets-- not leftovers otherwise they'd be shitting really sticky and far more smelly shit.

So thank *insert name of dog food inventor here* for pellets!

Also, I apologize for the sudden photobomb. I don't usually blog this way, but ever since I heard that Multiply was going to stop offering file sharing services by December, I did not know what to do. Up until now I still upload my stuff on Multiply-- pinky swear-- you can check it if you want to (click here, darling). Right now I'm thinking of how to retrieve all those stuff... and where to keep them, especially.

Normal people want superpowers

I wasn't able to follow my long weekend itinerary so boohoo. Today I am supposed to come up with a poster thingie for our confraternity's August birthday celebrants. This is 100% voluntary. I'm doing it mostly because I don't have enough $$$ to buy each of them a gift (ang dami kaya nila, lima).

Instructions in English, Filipino, German, and Spanish. Ang 'di pa maka-gets panget.

Yes, I drew everything myself, though as usual I still have to borrow some textures from DeviantArt.
Here are my resources:
Everything was done on sketchpad and in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Next week, our group will be holding a lobby game called Movie Addicts. This year's theme revolves around superheroes, both foreign and local. Ah, that explains why most of them are dressed in comic characters. But why choose the Filipino motif? Well, I guess I was trying to promote Filipino creations? Don't ask me, I don't know.

Today I am also supposed to come up with a Sigman anniv tarp design but I don't know if I'll be able to accomplish that before 12 midnight since I still have to end my relationship with the infamous 180-page Philo 171 readings. Don't get me wrong-- I love that course but it just takes up too much of my time. I also hate the fact that some articles in it are not in modern English. As much as I'd love to read like a sir, I also hate that I cannot comprehend about 60% of whatever the philosophers are talking about.

Hell weekend

My Friday’s about to end and I have not yet done anything productive.

I just got home (by home I mean the one in Rizal) yesterday. Why, you ask. Well the UPCAT will take place on Saturday and Sunday so my school had to give up Friday’s afternoon classes to prepare for next day’s UPCAT. I went home Thursday since my only Friday pasok commences at 5:30 in the afternoon giving me the ultimate oh-what-a-wonderful-life pass to a long weekend.

Long weekend woohoo lettuce celebry or somethin!

Yeah that was what I had in mind too until it occurred to me that I'll be taking two exams next week and that I'll still have to read the 6th chapter of this e-book I illegally downloaded for Econ 102 and that I'll still have to update my notes on Macroeconomics so that I'll be able to understand whatever Sir De Leon has to discuss the next time we meet. I still don't even know what to do with my BM 99.1 (Accounting) since it has been two weeks since the last time I saw Sir Bacon. My point is that I still have to accomplish so many school shit before I get to enjoy whatever may be left of my weekend.

Long weekend indeed.

With this I constructed a Long Weekend Game Plan. Oo na yuck nerd moments pero I without a to-do list I sure won't be able to accomplish anything. Here goes.

Friday
  • BM 153 Take notes from readings
  • Philo 171 Catch up (since I was not around last session)
Saturday
  • Philo 171 Finish catching up (I swear there are lots to read)
  • Econ 102 Read Chapter 6
  • Econ 101 Take notes from provided PPTs
Sunday
  • Construct Sigman anniv. tarp design draft
  • Construct fancy happy birthday August celebrants poster thingie
Monday
  • BM 153 Review for exam
  • Philo 171 Review for exam
Non-acad gigs
  • Cinemalaya: Try to find a way inside the movie house to watch Ang Nawawala and Mga Kidnapper ni Ronnie Lazaro since you're the suckiest loser to fail to reserve a ticket or two (one for Mocs of course) for the screening.
  • Go on a date with Inday or Dahlia or Kit or Charlene.
  • Assist Sofia (or maybe not-- she's Jill's guest anyway... pero)
  • Attend to check-up

And yet I still find time to blog. Well, let's say this is my way of relieving stress (without even feeling it yet). Pero okay sa totoo lang ayoko pang simulan tasks ko so
