Kid Jungle

Last Thursday (August 23), College of San Benildo - Rizal (formerly San Benildo Integrated School) celebrated its 40th Foundation Day. I was actually looking forward to another mundane event, but then an arena of youngsters aiming spray string ammo at each other welcomed me! Kung ganito lang ang foundation day sa lahat ng school, jusmé, magpapa-guest list na 'ko lagi.

Now imagine them with ears and tails and roars.
Booths selling inedible merchandise were selling the same items: plastic eyewear (lalo na yung may usong Hello Kitty ears and bow), beyblade (which I never thought would sell out to this generation's youngsters), One Direction button pins, toy masks, tubes of plastic balloon, canisters of spray string, pouches, watches, toys, toys toys!

Most of these items, if not all, were just silly made-in-China dittos and may even have super low durability but I availed some anyway since lahat naman tayo guilty. Yihee. I got myself a a can of spray string (P50), a tricolor slinky (P50), and several tubes of plastic balloon (P2.50 - P10).

Cheap novelty items = Magic
Game booths were set up by 5th and 6th graders-- those who use intermediate pad papers for quizzes and essays and stuff (because yes I used to be one of them, hihi).

I'm not an Angry Birds fan but I think this booth deserves an award for extra effort! The decor was super playful-- they even painted the cubes just so they'd look like those pesky green pigs from the game! The mechanics was simple-- you just had to knock down the green piggy cubes using only three stuffed Angry Birds.

Kid-in-charge I'd toss stuffed birds at if only he were painted green hihihi jk

I was tempted to try out the Soccer Game Booth but they're just kids. I hate to be one of the grown-ups ugh

Also, ang daming batang chics. Can you spy the apple of my eye (wow rhyming)?

Bright color hairspray-ed do was in trend!

The first person I aimed my spray string at: BRUDAAAAH!

Stupid replication...

Jared's revenge

Who could this sirenang feelingera be?
Dun dun dun! Annica Sirena. K.
One game booth, however, put me off. The operators were letting those children (if adults participated, shame on you) toss rings at the poor chicks. Sila kaya ihagis sa tubig na may dye tapos hagisan ng rings? Tangina ha.

I hope they realize the consequences of their actions :(
Cousin Annica got herself a pink chick. If only I'd told her sooner.
They didn't even know how to handle it :(
Jared then decided that he was hungry so we went to the canteen for a bite. He got me an order of fish balls-- half of which he ate din naman :)))

Then I saw this little lady munching on her Chicken Joy. Ang cute lang.

The Party Hair: Spray paint with bright colors then toss some of them spray string in. Ta-da!

Most people dreaded the Jail Booth. I'd love to be incarcerated, though.
At the sun's height, I decided to give my Philo 171 readings some very much deserved attention.
I took a rest on the stairway where I spotted two security guards. I wonder how they cope up with boredom in these kinds of days. They weren't even at all functional: Kids weren't supposed to go to their classrooms, pero ang dali lang nalulusutan ng mga bata 'tong mga guards na 'to.

Sayang tuition.

While waiting for Jared to change up, I saw a kid staring at a mesh of bright yellow thingie. I got curious as to what it was so I took a look myself once the kid went away.

This is just inhumane.

Pasintabi sa mga kumakain pero eto ang dinudulot ng mga palarong iyan.
Overall, even though I was super disappointed with those booths giving aways chicks and fishes as prizes, I had fun! There were so many things to be happy about~
  • Aiming my can of spray strings at random youngsters
  • Kids simultaneously singing to songs by One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen, Demi Lovato, Maroon 5, and Justin Biebs
  • Booths selling the same novelty items for different prices (perfectly competitive market!)
  • Chubby and jumpy and cutesy little kids
  • Random kids going up to and warning me to take my ponytail off or hide my spray can if I don't wanta get jailed
  • Random kid asking me if he has fair skin because fair-skinned people are the new Jail Booth targets

Isa pa please :)

Mishandling productivity: blog revamp

It's a quarter to eleven and the only times I've meddled with the love affair blossoming between my ass and my bed were those times when I have to pee and those commercials I have to grab something to eat. Team Tamad ako for the long weekend woohoo

I've been focusing my productivity on shit not related to school. Screw me, right?
  • I've been playing Charlie Chaplin's Smile on guitar over and over and I might just as well upload a video of myself making a cover of it.
  • I've played Monopoly with (my brother) Jarhead twice in a row and just imagine how hard it is to finish the game when there are only two participants.
  • I've been hopping from art blog to art blog to inflict further injury both to my ego and to my dying skillz (if I even ever had any).
  • I kept on going outside to rub the dogs' bellies. We've got five.
  • I've been trying to revive my (rather imaginary) skillz.

This is my third commando sketch today.

  • I've spent about five hours (FIVE FUCKING HOURS!) pimping this blog. I just had too-- I cannot anymore stand its previously playful appearance okay
  • I've sketched some Aztec-ish pattern for my blog's skin and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.

A few days ago I was shopping for groceries when these guys from Nestlé approached me and asked me if I wanted to take their nutritional risk assessment so I agreed thinking that they'd only want me to take a very quick survey. Suddenly the lady I was talking to introduced me to a nurse who started measuring my weight, height, and blood pressure (with the appropriate instruments of course). I can disclose the findings here but I'd rather keep it confidential because fuck yeah I'm guilty.

They kept asking me if I was pregnant or lactating. I almost said yes.
Measuring tape with a Nestlé on it so that I can mentally thank them whenever I keep watch of my waistline

I have learned that one's waistline is related to his/her BMI! What are the odds? It was not included in the BMI calculation though-- waistline standards were set in relation to one's height and weight. So anyway I've scored "normal" on their tests but I still have to watch my figure since my waistline dictates that I am only four inches away from health risks.

Lately, however, there came circumstances that made me choose to pick the unhealthy side instead. I will never ever trade the pleasure of eating for anything, so fuck da police health nazis.

Yesterday, Paolo decided to sleep over at my apartment. We decided to have dinner at KFC so he got each of us an order of Hotshots plus extra rice (hence two cups of rice each). Why the extra rice, you ask? Recently we have been arguing over who's really the macho-er one between us two, and, well, as the old saying goes (or was it even that old of a saying...)-- "Ang tunay macho ay laging may extra rice" (apparently I've just replaced "ang tunay na lalake" with "ang tunay na macho" since lalake's not quite applicable to me-- I have no dick okay). So I let myself pig out and honestly that was the first time in a long time (by long time I mean two weeks) I felt so fucking full. I also had to break my long-running fast on softdrinks because I forgot to tell him that I usually stick to drinking water whenever I eat out so he got me a Sprite-- he does not know anything about my eating habits yet since that was just only the fourth time we ate out together.

In the morning (today), he made tuna omelette for breakfast. He asked me if I would want rice with it but I was not accustomed to having rice for breakfast whenever I'm out of Rizal but I went for it anyway because I am so fucking macho. This time however I only had one cup of rice (he had two but that does not mean I already admit defeat okay).

Once I'm back in Rizal naman, I took a five-hour nap (glutton na nga sloth pa, sinong 'di tataba?). Mum (feeling British na naman ako as usual) woke me up because she needs someone to accompany her to her grocery shopping. Jill and I went with her knowing that there'd be binging opportunities because that was always the case with our mother. Everything, of course, went as expected. She treated us to Tokyo Tokyo. Jill had Pork Tonkatsu and my mum and I shared this Fried Chicken Karaage / Prawn & Vegetable Tempura meal for two even though I was fucking dying to try out their Godzilla Burger. Mum did not allow me to because of health concerns. Boriiiing. Tokyo Tokyo did not disappoint. We went grocery shopping later with puffed out tummies. Insert red iced tea cheers here.

Godzilla Burger is a sexy burger thus it has to be named after something so fuckin' sexy too.

I still have to find out if we'd still celebrate pizza day tomorrow. I just hope we do because we all know that an order of any cheesy chow can brighten up one's day-- or in my case, week.

Overall, I'd blame Paolo and the macho manifesto for having me bade adieu to good health and welcome a protracting waistline instead. Mum's treating us doesn't have anything to do with my bloating since it's normal for her to fatten us every week.

So bye I have to go now because dinner's ready. Happy eating binging!

My only class in the afternoon was cancelled so I got to go home earlier today woohoo! The reason was not woohoo-material however-- my professor had to attend (ata) to the guests of his father's funeral. I would love to send my condolences but I do not have any means of contacting him. May his dad rest in peace.

Moving on.

The sun's rays kind of gave off a good warm feeling on my skin and the wind was really soft . Don't get me wrong-- I'm not trying to be romantically descriptive over here. I was just trying to appreciate how today's weather conditioned the sun and the wind to be rather friendlier. I mean, don't you just love it?

Park sidewalk

Tapos as I was making my way down the street, Broken Social Scene's Ambulance for the Ambiance (download here) went on play! Grabe lang. I'm so glad I've stocked up on new instrumentals. Imagine hearing the wind blowing and the leaves rustling in the background while hearing chimey-wimey woody-windy music playing in the fore. Add that to the super mega duper light traffic to your left (halos wala okay-- plus ang sarap minsan pakinggan ng mga cars as they drive by) and the happy kids playing and gigglin in the park to your right.

Fuckin' eargasmic.

Café Lidia

Howdy! Welcome to a segment of Juan Tralala Tries to Critic! Lol. Dry run lang 'to kasi baka seryosohin ko ang pagb-blog 'pag ako'y nasa working class na. Hahaha ilusyonada

Moving on.

In our household, Sunday is always pizza day. We (Jill and Jared and Mama and I) either go out to satisfy our cravings or just have them sexy things (yes pizza is fuckin sexy okay) delivered to our house.

Usually we go to Papa John's or Shakey's or Yellow Cab or Greenwich or Pizza Hut or Don Henrico's, but last Sunday Mum brought us to someplace different. Last Sunday we went to Café Lidia in Marikina.

One of the few pinaghirapang graffiti I have ever seen.

Medyo pa-ninja yung lugar, tago.

During the trip, Jared kept insisting that we dine at McDo's instead. Since we did not anyway, he was so full of bad vibes by the time we got to the café.

Jared, a.k.a. "Boy Bad Trip"

Jill the Feeling Redhead

The café had a really lovely interior (wow gumaganon). One would know that it used to be a residential unit after about a minute of getting a load of its structure. Cutesy vintage decor can be seen everywhere, pero I think that's kind of the trend with cafés nowadays (i.e. Café Noriter, Toll House, CBTL).

So I enjoyed the interior, okay. Unfortunately, the sight of a padlock at the corner of their WiFi ID made me kinda sad. Cafés would usually offer free WiFi-- well, clearly this one does not. I've nothing against it offering no WiFi, though (pero affected na affected naman hahaha).

Also, I got too used to using knives whenever we go out for pizza. Café Lidia, however, only place spoons and forks and napkins on their tables-- no knives huhu. Maybe they're trying to offer only those silverware Filipinos are most fond of using? Pero if they are how come their decors look imported? Bah whatever. I never got to use the silverware anyway aside from when I was taking in some Mozzarella Sticks (oo meron sila-- just like the other pizza places we go to woohoo!) since kinakamay ko lang yung pizza (oha mas Pinoy ang dating). Ang laking issue sakin ng knife, sorry.

When it comes to price, I think they're fair with setting their's. Thin crust pizzas (dahil wala namang thick) cost a little over Php 250 each, depending on which. Their cakes were priced at a level that can compete with eateries with larger names-- a slice of sansrival will cost you a glittering Php 90 (oo glittering dahil ako 'di ko afford at oo yung price lang ng sansrival tinignan ko dahil I was kind of thinking of bringing Monica here).

On to our orders:
  • Pizza Papa
  • Pizza Lidia
  • Mozzarella sticks
  • Some mocha drink really rich in whipped cream whose name I forgot na (Jill's)
  • Some chocolate drink which has less whipped cream than the mocha drink (Jared's)

Pizza Papa was a-okay but then I would like to apologize because I can never ever appreciate thin crust pizzas. Their wonderful crispiness distracts me from indulging myself in their cheesy form. Ayoko ng sabay-sabay na pleasure. Gusto ko one at a time.

Pizza Papa
I did not really appreciate Pizza Lidia because
  • It has black olives
  • It has green olives (for further injury, I think)
  • It has tuna in it (I'm sick of tuna okay)
  • The tomato and the layer of cheese was the only thing I liked about it

Anyway, people have different tastes so I'm not dissuading anyone from trying it. So go on. Try it.

Pizza Lidia
Earlier I mentioned that it has a lovely interior. Well, that was one of the reasons Mum brought us there. While waiting for the bill, Mum was insisting that we take a trip to the powder room. Eh ayaw namin. Yun pala she just wanted us to see its grandiose, er, interior. However, Jill was too busy with her anime and I was too full of pride so I didn't go anyway. I don't want Mum to emerge victorious in trying to show us something fab that she saw first before we did. Oo masama akong anak lol

The interior was good. The service was good. I guess we just ordered the wrong items. Overall, I give it a 2 out of 5 (wow gumaganon).
